WHAT TO EXPECT

CURRENCY

When Germany joined the European Union, the German mark was replaced by the euro as the national currency. Cash can be important in Germany, especially when traveling outside of major cities. Foreign currency can be exchanged at large banks and at currency exchange counters found in the airports and train stations. ATMs are widely available throughout Germany, and a debit card is the easiest way to buy euros at a reasonable exchange rate.

TRANSPORTATION

It is possible to stroll around the lake at Schliersee – the paths are flat and on the level, and the overall distance is about 7km but it is possible to get the local ferry/water taxi to one end of the lake at Fischausen and then walk back. The path follows the local train line along the edge of the lake and has beautiful views of the surrounding mountains.

CULTURE

Tradition and culture in the Kitzbüheler Alpen has been retained and preserved over the centuries. Numerous cultural events bring this cultural wealth to life: welcoming people, an enthusiasm for music and song, delicious Tyrolean cuisine, handcrafts and much more. Wonderful traditional costumes are on show at the many festivals. Traditional dances and music complete the events on offer.
