WHAT TO DO

Attractions

For the sun seekers, the golden shores are much more than a taste of bliss. For the history enthusiast, churches, forts and the old mansions are a treasure trove. Almost 300 years of colonial heritage and culture lies hidden within them. Nature lovers are sure to have great time as the list of tourist attractions in Goa state has wildlife sanctuaries, untouched, forests, waterfalls and the lesser known backwaters.

Adventure aficionados in Goa are up for challenge and the challenge is what to go for, as there are so many options. Both the waters and the lands are up for thrilling sports. Party Lovers are surely in heaven when they are in Goa. The small paradise has clubs, pubs, bars, beach parties, casinos, etc. In fact, name it and you have it in Goa.

Shopping

Offering amazing variety and price, Goa is a shopaholics dream in its true sense. Shopping in Goa is a mix of bargaining at the flea market, indulging into luxurious shopping at a plush mall, buying specialized fashion clothing and accessories from a designer boutique, scouting shops that sell eccentric beach wear and tees, or visiting book-stores that have everything from mythological to fiction.

However, tourists in Goa have a keen interest towards hovering in mid-week flea markets or night bazaars that feature chirping voices, multifarious colors and where bargaining is on full.

Nightlife

Nightlife in Goa is legendary, from all night raves on the beach to swish nightclubs and everything in between – there’s a good reason why Goa is called India’s nightlife capital! Ever since the days of the hippie trail Goa has become world famous for wild parties and a vibrant night life scene.

Most of the best raves, party places and nightlife in Goa center around Psytrance (or Goa Trance) and the days of all night raves on the beach are back and age is no barrier – you might still see some of the old hippies from the days of the hippy trail raving the night away!

WHAT TO EXPECT

TRANSPORTATION

There are many options for you to get around in Goa. Public transport largely consists of privately operated buses linking the major towns to rural areas.Hired forms of transport include unmetered taxis and, in urban areas, auto-rickshaws. A popular mode of transportation in Goa is the motorcycle taxi, operated by drivers who are locally called ‘pilots’. These vehicles transport a single pillion rider, at fares that are usually negotiated.

Other than buses, ‘pilots’ tend to be the cheapest mode of transport. You can also rent out a motorcycle and explore the many contrasts that Goa has to offer around every twist and turn.

FOOD

Goan cuisine has been influenced by an exotic blend of sea, spices and foreign invaders – first the Portuguese, then the hippies and lately food-savvy travelers – which means delicious Indian snacks, fantastic fish and modern fusion are all on offer

WEATHER

(March - June) Summers are not the ideal time to visit Goa. However, the advantages of visiting Goa in the off-season are cheaper accommodation and rates of food, booze, travel and absence of crowd and rush. (July - September) Goa in monsoons could be quite the dampener. However, the flip side to being here this time is that all prices take a dip.

You can also enjoy the trek to Dudhsagar Falls and see it in its best form. (November - February) It is in the month of October that the monsoon starts to fade away and there is a slight chill in the atmosphere. The winter starts setting in from November. Due to proximity to the Arabian Sea, the winters are not harsh. The temperatures in winter are around 20-22 degrees Celsius.
